Saxonwold
About Saxonwold Blinds: cut for windows that have settled
Saxonwold Blinds is a made-to-measure window shading service for Saxonwold and the parks belt beside it. In a suburb where almost no two windows share a size, a stock range would be beside the point, so there is not one. Every blind, awning and screen is cut for one opening in one house.
Why these avenues specify differently
Sandwiched between the Johannesburg Zoo, Zoo Lake and the Houghton ridge, Saxonwold is a suburb of mature gardens, tree-canopied streets and homes old enough to have settled, and each of those things changes what the right blind means. Decades of settling leave original timber and steel-framed openings slightly out of square, so a tape measure on site beats a catalogue size every time. Oaks and jacaranda canopies soften the glare but not the heat, so park-facing and west rooms still want a proper sunscreen mesh or blockout behind that leaf shadow. A public park cuts privacy both ways, with walkers at eye level all day. And a Highveld storm does not ask permission before it reaches an awning left open over the garden.
The collection
Roller blinds in blockout, sunscreen and double-roller pairings are the everyday answer. Day-night blinds hold privacy with light in rooms that face the park. Venetians come in aluminium for wet rooms and warm basswood for the study, with external venetians as the premium answer for the worst western gables. Cellular honeycomb blinds insulate both ways for bedrooms above an old, uninsulated roof space. Roller shutters roll down outside the glass to stop heat, glare and low western sun before they reach the room. Vertical and panel blinds suit wide terrace doors, concealed systems suit rooms being extended, and skylight blinds handle gables and roof glass. Folding-arm awnings and zip screens shade the stoep, motorisation ties it together, and blinds already on your windows can be restrung and refitted.
Saxonwold first, then the parks belt
The same measure-and-fit standard travels just down the road. Houghton Estate is two suburbs in one: ridge-top homes with open sky, real heat load and wind at elevation above Munro Drive, and the Art Deco flats and gracious houses of Lower Houghton. Forest Town is one of the city's first garden suburbs, where early cottages sit under some of its deepest street trees and the canopy decides the light before any blind does. Parktown North runs on its verandas, with Edwardian stoeps doing the work of a living room. Parkview keeps one of the most intact Edwardian streetscapes in Johannesburg, with park-facing glass that takes low western light off open ground.
How the work is done
An enquiry arrives through the form or the chat, and one of our expert consultants will contact you shortly to book a free in-home measure. On the visit each opening is measured individually, the frame and the recess are assessed for what they will actually carry, and fabric, slat and control are chosen room by room against the light that room really gets, with samples you can hold against your own walls. The consultant walks the house with you at the hour the light is actually a problem.
The quote comes back written and itemised per window, lead times included, so a large old house can be taken in stages and there is no pressure to decide before you have sat with the samples. Approve it and the order is manufactured to those numbers and installed cleanly by our own team, with a full operation demonstration before we leave. Pricing is confirmed in writing after the measure, never guessed from a brochure.
What we say plainly
The roller shutters in this collection are built to control sun, heat and glare from outside the pane. They are a shading product, not a security product; a product rated for security is a different thing, priced on request. We fit blinds and are not heritage practitioners, so on a house over sixty years old we raise the permit question at the measure rather than guess the answer for your address. We do not sell a stock range, and we only quote for the products listed here. Where a window needs nothing at all because an oak or a deep stoep is already doing the work, we say so on the day.
Getting in touch
The enquiry form on every page and the on-page chat are the two ways to reach us; the chat answers product and area questions at any hour. An enquiry books a free measure, not a purchase, and if you are still researching you can say so and nobody will phone. Whatever you send is used only to arrange the consultation call-back and to price the work, handled under POPIA, with no marketing lists and no sharing with third parties.
